The Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Professor Shayhk Luqman Jimoh has said that scrapping of the Tertiary Education Trust Funds TETFund will be a disastrous to the National education system.
Jimoh made this known during the pre- 12 th convocation media briefing on Tuesday in llorin for the 2023/2024 academic session.
It would be recalled that there were insinuations in some quarters that the TETFund and NELFund be merged together
The Vice Chancellor remarked that the two Federal agencies performs different functions and roles pointing out that the TETFund had been a blessings to Nigeria tertiary education in terms of infrastructural development.
He said that the institution had produced 71 first class graduates degrees across different department of the institution with a total of 6,374 graduands are being turned out for the academic session.
According to him, “The TETFUND has been a blessing not only to the federal institutions but a ray of hope for state owned tertiary institutions.”
He stressed that the university had benefited immensely from the various intervention projects of the funds which had greatly improved the infrastructural development of the institution.
Jimoh remarked that the university had grown from 9 to 11 faculties which had allowed the institution to increase her academic activities after a resources verification by the National Universities Commission.
In the area of research, the VC said that the university had won grants for the Artificial intelligence for Women in Agriculture projects, and 23 undergraduate students of the institution had also wom grants to advance their innovative research proposals among others.
Also, speaking on the multi- Campus nature of the institution, Jimoh noted that the Osi campus of the institution located at the Southern senatorial district of the state had fully commenced with the faculty of Environmental sciences while that of llesha – Baruba in the kwara North senatorial district would soon commenced.
The VC lauded the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahan Abdulrazaq for his commitment and financial support to the institution which had allowed the university to move ahead in her teaching and.learning.
