The organizer of the Sardauna U-16 Football Competition and CEO of Ultimate Sports Consult, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Owolabi Wopa, has attributed the success of the maiden edition of the tournament to the unwavering support from key stakeholders.
He also revealed that outstanding talents discovered during the competition will form an ALGON team, with a dedicated scouting program planned to further develop them.
Expressing his delight over the tournament’s success, Alhaji Wopa acknowledged the observations made by stakeholders regarding the need for proper nurturing of young talents.
He emphasized that professional coaches were engaged throughout the competition to identify and groom the best players.
“From the onset, I engaged professional coaches under the aegis of the Kwara State Coaches Association. Their task was to select the best players from each local government who will form the ALGON team. These players will be properly nurtured and guided to stardom with the support of the Kwara Football Academy,” he stated.
He also extended his gratitude to sponsors and donors, particularly the chairmen of the 16 local government areas, for their contributions to the competition. Wopa reaffirmed his commitment to promoting grassroots football as a means of fostering a crime-free society.
At the end of the tournament, the winning team. Asa local government area took the first place while Offa local government and Baruten local government areas took second and third place respectively and also took home a ₦500,000 cash prize, while the second and third-place teams received ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 .
